Cultural Cell
Since inception of the university, focus has been laid down on promoting socio cultural activities and competitions through Berhampur University Choir/ Orchestra. One faculty member usually is appointed as Director/ Cultural Coordinator to facilitate in conducting the events/ competitions among the bonafide student participants. There is an Advisory Committee to guide, assist and prepare budget and modus operandi in conducting various cultural activities under the direct supervision and coordination of the Cultural Coordinator. Every year the Cultural Coordinator organizes the Inter-College cultural competitions among the student participants from various affiliated colleges to Berhampur University on 15-20 events. Then the University contingent shall be constituted to take part in Inter University Zonal Youth Festival which is organized by Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi in collaboration with one of the Universities. The University organized for the first time the East Zone Inter-University Youth Festival during 17-21, December, 1991. Sponsored by the Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India., Berhampur University successfully organized 30th Central Zone Youth Festival during November, 25-29, 2014.
Aims and Objectives
- Promote socio cultural skill development through different events.
- Promote fellowship, brotherhood among participating students from different colleges and universities.
- Bring out an exposure to various special skills including holistic personality development.
- Achieve the goal of Unity in Diversity through conducting such Youth Festivals.
Activities during 2021:
The Inter College literary and cultural competitions, 2021 (ICLCC, 2021) was held on 21st and 22nd December, 2021 at Berhampur University. It was inaugurated by Prof. G. J. Chakrapani, honorable Vice-Chancellor, Berhampur University. Professor Chakrapani advised the students to learn and preserve the rich culture of our society through that program. Also, Prof. P. K. Mohanty, Chairman, PG Council, Prof. P. K. Swain, Warden, P.G. boy’s hostel and other teacher’s and employees of the university participated and motivated the students.
175 affiliating college were intimated out of which students from 12 affiliated colleges and the students of Berhampur University have participated in different competitions i.e. classical and light vocal, monoacting, Just a minute, Painting, drawing, light instrument, essay, debate, quiz and classical dance. Around 300 students participated in the events and provided with the participation certificate and the winners were given merit certificate. For each event external expert judges were invited. Guru Ganesh Patnaik, Shri Sangram Patnaik for classical and light music; Sri Razoo Padhy, Er. Manoj Kumar Dandapat for monoacting; Mr. Satya Maharana for painting and Guru Jatin Das, Mr. Tirupati served as the experts for instrumental competitions.
Different faculties of Berhampur University also served as judges for the event. Dr. Nihar Ranjan Mishra, Dr. Bandita Panda, Dr. P. K. Dixit acted as the judge for quiz competition, Dr. J.K. Seth and Dr. S. P. Sahoo for debate, Dr. K. Baral, Dr. N. Pandey, Dr. K. K. Nayak and Ms. K. Behera for essay competition, Dr. D. Mishra, Dr. B. R. Meher along with dance guru Pratima Nayak, for classical dance, and Dr. R.N. Patra with guru for instrumental competition. The program was successfully coordinated by Dr. Sarita Dash, cultural program coordinator, Berhampur University and Dr. S. K. Dash, Assistant Register, BU, Dr. D. Mishra, Dr. M. Tripathi helped to make the event successful. At the end of the program the winners of different competitions were felicitated with certificate of merit and the participants were also provided with certificates of participation.
The All Odisha Inter University Competitions (OIUC, 2022) Literary and Cultural Competitions, 2022 was conducted by Utkal University, Bhubaneswar from 15 -17 March, 2022. In this event almost 260 students from 14 universities were participated in different competitions i.e. classical and light vocal, monoacting, skit, Just a minute, Painting/drawing, light instrument, essay, debate, quiz and classical dance. In this event 18 students, who were the winners of Inter College literary and cultural competitions, 2021 (ICLCC, 2021) that was held on 21st and 22nd December, 2021 at Berhampur University also participated (list attached). Dr. S.R. Dash, faculty from Commerce Department and Dr. Mihir Tripathy, Senior Assistant accompanied the students along with the undersigned.
Five of our students were awarded by the Honourable Chancellor Prof. Ganeshi Lal, Governor of Odisha. Ms. Prajna Paramita Priyadarshini secured 1st prize in Odia essay with a cash prize of Rs. 30,000/- and 2 prize in Odia debate with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/-, Mr. Jayasen Khilla secured 1st prize in Mono acting with a�cash prize of Rs. 30,000/-, Mr. Sivam Kumar Satapathy received 2nd prize in Light Vocal music with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/- and Mr. Abinash Baliarsingh received 3rd prize in Light Instrument with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/- along with merit certificates and beautiful trophies. Honourable Vice Chancellor of Berhampur University, Prof, G.J. Chakrapani along with Asst. Registrar Dr. Saroj Kumar Dash also graced the valedictory function at Utkal University, BBSR.
