Dr. Swain has obtained his M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. He has qualified UGC (NET) and was awarded ICSSR Doctoral Fellowship at NKC Centre for Development Studies, Bhubaneswar. He has more than 18 years of teaching and research experience at reputed institutions such as IIM Ahmedabad, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun; Sardar Patel University (SPU), Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat; Khallikote University, Berhampur, ICFAI University; ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management,...

His areas of research interest include Agricultural and Resource Economics, Climate Change Impacts and Adaptations, Rural Finance, Food Security and Sustainable Development, Gender Studies and Energy Studies. He has completed 23 research projects funded by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India; Planning Commission, GoI; World Bank; ICSSR New Delhi, Gujrat Govt., DST-GoI, IASRI New Delhi, NDDB Anand, CIPT, Columbia Water Centre etc. He has Published 04 books, 66 research papers in refereed journals and edited books and has contributed 72 research papers to national and international conferences. He has organised 07 seminars/conferences/workshops and has chaired many sessions as the resource persons. He has worked as a member of the Editorial Boards of 06 research journals and as a reviewer for several journals (22) published by Springer, Elsevier, Taylor and Francis (Routledge), Wiley-Blackwell etc. He has guided 01 M.Phil. and 06 Ph.D. students and 28 MBA students. Dr. Swain was the recipient of Sardar Patel Research Award, 2018 from the Governor of Gujarat for the best research paper under the category of Agricultural and Social Sciences at S. P. University; V. S. Vyas Felicitation Prize three times consecutively (2012-2013, 2014-2015 and 2016-2017) for the best research reports. He was also the recipient of the Research Grant under India – Thailand Bilateral Programme and visited Thailand during 2019. Besides, he has ample experiences in academic administration. He works as the Director, Centre for Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSEIP) and the Coordinator, AIU-Academic and Administrative Development Centre (AADC) at Berhampur University. He acted as Director, IQAC; Director, CDC; Director, HRDC; Coordinator, RUSA; Coordinator. IDP (World Bank); Head of the Department of Economics and Management; Dean, School of Management and Business Studies; Development Officer; Nodal Officer, 12B; and Syndicate Member of erstwhile Khallikote University Berhampur. He was elected as the Vice-President, South Odisha Economic Association for 2022-23. He is a life member of many professional Associations/Societies including TIES, IEA, ISAE, ISAM, TSED, OEA SOEA etc.
