Sukanta K.Tripathy is a Professor in the Department of Physics , Berhampur University, where he teaches , conducts research and provides research guidance in the field of fiber optic sensor technology and solar cell.He is the founder Director of the Centre of excellence in nanoscience and technology for the development of sensor at Berhampur University.He has been the PI and Co PI of variour funded projects from UKIERI,DST,India;DST,FIST;BRNS,DAE India;OHEPEEGovt of Odisha;,DST Govt of Odisha with a cost more than 500 lakhs.He visited the University of Electro-Communication, Japan; Brunel University, London and Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences(IAMS), Taiwan; Centre forCondensed Matter Sciences NTU, Taiwan, as visiting scientist on collaborative research....

With a strong emphasis on innovation, Dr. Tripathy has made significant contributions to the development of fiber optic sensors in areas such as healthcare,environment and food security. His expertise lies in the design of fiber optic sensors using advanced optical materials, including special fibers, plasmonics, and nanomaterials.Apart from sensing he also is working in the third generation solar cells.Dr. Tripathy with his students developed two prototypes for blood glucose monitoring and a low cost  nanocomposite for the treatment of industry effluents.

He has puplished more than 60 reaserch papers in the jounals of international repute and filed four patents.Apart from this he has edited two books on materials science with Prof.S.M.Bose Drexel University and Prof S.N.Behera  published by American Institute of Physics( AIP).He also  has published one text book(Scitech Publisher) on Materials Science for undergraduate students.

Dr Tripathy guided nine PhD students,10 MTech/M.Phil students and currentlly eight students are working under him towards their PhD degree.

He is a Patron Member : Odisha Physical Society,Life Member: Optical Society of India,Life Member: Photonics Society of India,Member: IEEE Photonic Society ,MTT,Life Member: ISTE

Apart from teaching he is also involved in various administrative positions at Berhampur University,such as Director ,College Development Council,Director Research and Development,Director Central Instrumentation Centre , OSD,Faculty Promotion ,Dean Science and Technology and Head Department of Physics.

He was a member of governing council of Institute of Physics (IoP) Bhubaneswar during 2016-2021,Executive member of Odisha Vigyan Academy during 2019-2021 and Member Executive Council of Higher Secondary education,Govt. of Odisha since 2021,Member for selection committee,OURIIP(Govt. Of Odisha) Projects for Physics,Coordinator to design of Physics curriclum for Odisha based on NEP 2020.
